The Urologic Diagnostic Ladder

About this illustration
The diagnostic ladder is a selection framework, not a mandatory sequence. The clinical question determines which tests are needed and their order; tests may be skipped or reordered even without urgency. History, examination, laboratory tests, diary, ultrasound, flow and residual, cystoscopy, urodynamics, CT, MRI, and biopsy answer different questions. Urgency changes priorities.
